First Birthday Frills and Ruffles

This little gem was made for someone really special. Her mother and I have been besties since we were 3, we spent many a night planning our weddings, husbands and future babies by flashlight "camping out" in my backyard. It's hard to believe that 28 years later, here we are....acting out those very plans. Her little girl, Pria, turned one this weekend and she requested a very special cake for her little princess....a pink ombre ruffle cake. I was pretty excited to make this one as I have been wanting to try this for a while, and  just needed a good excuse to do so.

Here she is:

The cake was perfect with Melissa's pinterest perfect party table!

Minty-fresh

My sister-in-law and I have birthdays one day apart and decided it would be best if we had a cake-off for our joint family party. I specifically requested a "princess cake" and I sent her a picture of a 6 tier wedding cake I was going to make her. Unfortunately time got the best of me and the 6 tier cake was not going to happen, so I decided on a more subtle mint green cake for the occasion. Good thing because with my parents, a dog, a bike, golf clubs, toys for my nephews and myself in the car...we would have had to strap that baby to the roof. This sweet little minty fresh cake was a dark chocolate cake with vanilla swiss meringue buttercream icing and fondant accents.

I've included a picture of the "winning" cake below mine. I just couldn't compete with an actual princess cake complete with a barbie in the middle. She was quite a hit with the kiddos!

And the winner made by my lovely sister in law: {she's pretty fantastic}

Sweet and Simple

Who makes their own birthday cake? {I do} This simple little cake was thrown together last minute so the girls and I would have something sweet after a long afternoon of wine tasting. Thankfully gumpaste lasts for weeks if kept in an airtight container so these decorations just happened to be laying around. Oh...and that adorable glittery serving set was a gift from my mama, one of my new obsessions is Sabre old fashioned flatware. They come in lots of different colors and I want each and every one! Sabre Old Fashioned Flatware

Happy Birthday to Me!

Can't go wrong with wine and girlfriends :)

Wedding at the Vineyard

Thanks to the beautiful bride of this wedding, I now have a new favorite color palette ...mustard yellow and grey. The flowers on the cake matched the some of the flowers in her bouquets and they certainly were fun to make! I am slowly becoming addicted to making gumpaste flowers. The happy couple had three different types of cupcakes: Salted Caramel, Dark Chocolate with White Chocolate Italian Meringue buttercream and Pumpkin cupcakes with Cream Cheese buttercream. Perfect for a fall wedding.

Congratulations Sabrina and Dario!

Fabulous Fall First Birthday

This weekend was one of my best friend's baby girl's first birthday. This is certainly cause for celebration and a fabulous set of cakes/cupcakes for the little munchkin. She had a fall/pumpkin themed party and not only did it look great it was a smashing good time, even with a little rain in the forecast. I must admit that miss Emma Jane was one of the daintiest little cake eaters I have ever seen.

Those little cake stands you see...made by yours truly for 2 dollars a piece. Thanks {yet again} Pinterest

Gumpaste Flowers

This cake was made for a bridal shower. I had seen a lot of cakes with flowers all over one tier and fell in love...so of course this was my next undertaking. Little did I know that making all those flowers takes {forever}. But it was well worth it because I loved the outcome. I matched her wedding colors (grey and mustard yellow) to get some practice for the actual wedding cake/cupcakes coming up in just under a month {eek}.

Salted Caramel Cake--Sabrina's favorite!

Fall Flavors

I am doing a cake tasting for a friend whose wedding is just around the corner. I could have just made something simple but if you know me at all, you know that's just not an option. I made three mini 4 inch cakes (and a few cupcakes for my friends and the boy) with the leftover batter.

Cake flavors:
Dark Chocolate Cake with White Chocolate Buttercream
Snickerdoodle Cake with Cinnamon Buttercream
Pumpkin Cake with Cream Cheese Buttercream
