Creepy Crawly

Perfect cake for Halloween. The spider web is made of marshmallows and the Spider is made of fondant. I had to "prop" up the spider's legs although they didn't exactly cooperate once actually on the cake. Looks more like an ant, but the legs are now stuck to the marshmallow so...it is what it is.

Simple and Pretty

I was practicing a cake flavor for a wedding cake I was making the following week, and of course I had to decorate my little practice cake.

Lemon Cake with Cream Cheese Icing. Yum.

Dress me in Flowers

My roommate made some seriously cute invitations for a friends bridal shower and I thought it would be fun to match the cake to the invitations.

Goal!

I tried (3 times actually) to make a perfectly round cake for this soccer themed groom's cake. A few months after this event I happened to walk by a soccer ball cake mold in the baking aisle. Next time...

Wild Things

A little topsy turvy, but this Zebra striped cake was made as a special birthday treat for a good friend.

Lavender Bridal Shower Cake

Made especially for my friends bridal shower, I wanted something simple and pretty and this was perfect for the occasion. The flowers are real though, I had not started making my own flowers yet. More to come on that later....

Fruitcake

Fruitcake...but not the type made with bits of fruit and drenched in scotch. Made with strawberries, raspberries, blueberries and starfruit in between layers of angel food cake and smothered with homemade whipped cream. A sweet little Valentines Day treat.

Fondant Ruffle (and Ombre) Cake

I had been dying to try to make a ruffle cake out of fondant, even though I am not the fondant type of girl. I made sure to put a thick layer of buttercream in between the cake and the fondant to make sure the cake was still delicious. And the Ombre cake made for a little surprise when you cut into it.

Happy Happy Birthday

I needed a quick and simple birthday cake and I didn't have much in the house in terms of decorations, so this is what I came up with. I love that it is simple, and a little elegant at the same time.

Baby Shower Cake Pops

Cake pops, what can I say....they are amazing. One of the most delicious little treats I have ever made. First you make a cake (any cake you fancy), then you crumble the cake into a large bowl, add your favorite icing and mix until you can form a ball. Dip the balls into melted chocolate and ta da! Cake Pops.

I have since found molds to make round balls of cake, but the best part is the icing inside, so I am not sure I will ever go that route. These were made for a baby shower and were a huge hit!

Perfect for any occasion and they make great favors!

Simple and Classic

I was in the mood to try something simple and classic, and this is what I came up with. Next time I will use rolled fondant to make the long thin lines as I quickly realized my hands were way too shaky to make perfect thin lines.

Ruffle Cake with Buttercream

This was my first attempt at a Buttercream Ruffle cake. Not bad for my first try and practice makes perfect!

Vino

What better way to end a long birthday wine tour than with these adorable little wine themed cupcakes. Strawberry cupcakes with Vanilla Buttercream icing. Even the wine bottles are edible. :)

Chocolate Raspberry Cupcakes

These were made for a birthday (28th obviously), Chocolate cupcakes made from scratch with Raspberry preserve filling and Vanilla buttercream icing. Delish!

Peppermint Swirl

The perfect cupcake for the holidays....Peppermint! Fresh and Festive, these were the perfect combination of a rich chocolate cupcake with a light peppermint frosting. Crushed candy canes added to the top for a little crunch.

How do you get the icing to look striped??

Add gel food coloring in stripes around your piping bag. 1-4 stripes works best. For the result above, I used two stripes of red gel coloring on opposite sides of the bag. Here is an example:

Cherry Blossoms

"Something Blue" Cupcakes

For a bridal shower with a "Something Blue" theme I made a mixture of Vanilla and Salted Caramel cupcakes with Vanilla buttercream frosting and fondant flowers.
